The jury is in: Jay Peak Resort and Pump House honored as a 2012 ‘Best Project’ by ENR New York

OAKVILLE, ON — September 27, 2012— A prestigious panel of five judges from the architecture, engineering and construction (ACE) industries has recognized Hotel Jay and Pump House Waterpark as one of the ‘Best Projects’ 2012, presented by the New York edition of the Engineering News Record (ENR). OpenAire led the design, manufacture and installation of the Pump House Waterpark’s retractable roof enclosure. It is honored to share this accolade with Jay Peak Resort and is grateful for the esteem presented from peers in ACE and the editors at ENR New York.

Mark Albertine, President of OpenAire, expressed his gratitude for receiving ENR’s mark of excellence: "I’ve always believed in OpenAire’s leadership in the industry and we are proud of what we do. But I’m tremendously humbled by the recognition shown by ENR New York and some of the best people in ACE. Being one of the 2012 Best Project is just tremendous and will push our team to reach greater heights in the future.”

The Jay Peak Pump House Waterpark enclosure is the tallest retractable roof OpenAire has built in North America. In cooperation with Black River Design and DEW Construction Corp., OpenAire led work on this project that transformed Jay Peak Resort into a year-round luxury destination. The 50,000 square foot waterpark features:
  • Sidewalls measuring 140’ wide, 280’ long and 43’ high
  • A curved cupola at the apex that houses a 55’ high slide tower
  • Structural load bearing of 80 lbs. per square feet to handle precipitation at Jay Peak, which experiences higher snowfall than some Rocky Mountain locations
  • Generous space to house the FlowRider surf wave, water basketball, a children’s area and lazy river
In this year’s ENR contest, Jay Peak Resort competed against 104 entries and was selected as a New York region winner. Projects in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont were eligible to enter the competition.

About ENR Regional Editions Best Projects 2012 Awards Program

ENR’s annual Best Projects Awards Program is dedicated to honoring the best construction projects and the companies that designed and built them in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. Projects compete in 18 specialized categories, ranging from transportation to green building.

Independent juries of industry leaders in design and construction from each of ENR’s nine regional editions judge the projects using five criteria, including safety, innovation and teamwork. The winners will be featured in the November 10 regional editions of ENR, which will also include further details and photos of every project. The winners will also be honored at a special breakfast on November 14. Projects deemed best in category automatically compete in the Best of the Best Projects 2012, a national juried competition appearing nationally in ENR.
