The retractable dome in Donetsk, Ukraine is under construction! At 26 m / 86’ high and 85m / 278’ in diameter, it is the largest free-standing aluminum-domed waterpark in the world. OpenAire was brought in to create a new world of possibility for the waterpark. Designed, manufactured and now being installed by OpenAire, the waterpark is sure to be a point of pride for the community and for tourism as the city prepares to be one of the host cities for Euro 2012.

We will be blogging frequently on the progress of the construction; bookmark this page or subscribe to our RSS feed to be kept informed of this monumental project!

Note: The aluminum towers shown in some pictures are temporary towers to facilitate installation. When OpenAire’s structure is in place, the temporary towers will be removed making this a freestanding structure with no interior columns.

Weekly Highlight

Are there interior columns?

When looking at the gallery of construction images, you may see placement of aluminum columns in some pictures. The columns are only temporary to facilitate installation. When OpenAire's structure has been fully framed, the columns will be removed to allow for easy placement of the water park.

The end result will be a beautiful open space, made possible by the innovative aluminum-dome design.
