Milford Orange YMCA, Milford, CT

The Milford Orange YMCA faced a tough choice. They were about to undergo a major overhaul of their facilities and needed to incorporate a pool enclosure to replace their existing bubble. The bubble was at the end of its lifespan.

Outdoor swimming is very popular at the aquatics-focused YMCA. How could they maintain the outdoor swim experience while still providing a year-round swim program in an enclosure that would complement the new facilities?

OpenAire offered the perfect solution – a striking building to match the new facilities, a maintenance-free structure (no more gloomy bubble), and the ability to open the roof and walls up to 50% to create a fresh-air swim experience.

The existing pool is Z-shaped and its proximity to the YMCA building demanded a large span structure capable of spanning over 100 feet. The offset ridge, high sidewalls, and ‘saw tooth’ footprint offer a unique look that works well with the sweeping curves of the adjacent facility.

The Milford Orange YMCA is scheduled for completion by the summer of 2004.
