The Magnolia Water Treatment facility was designed to be on the cutting edge of waste water treatment technology. While it is well known that natural light helps in the purification process there has been a historic problem in providing this natural light while still offering protection in weather that might impede the treatment process.

OpenAire was able to provide a retractable roof that maximizes the amount of light when closed. 1" (25mm) 5 walled clear polycarbonate was used in glazing the roof. This material is impervious to the caustic environment and maximizes light transmission. When open the roof provides direct sunlight to aid in the purification process.

The skylight is 31'-9"x42'-4" with a clerestory area 4'-11" all around.
