OpenAire offered the perfect solution with its
retractable roof enclosure. For most of the time the roof and walls could
be opened to create an outdoor pool environment. When weather creates a
less than perfect swim climate the roof and walls can close as needed to
create a bright, inviting, space. Swimmers can always find ideal conditions
at the Mission Valley YMCA. Dick Webster, Executive Director at the Y, was
so pleased he will be adding a second pool enclosed by an OpenAire
building. |

The OpenAire enclosure is 76'-6"x110' (14 Bays)
with 10' high sidewalls. The existing building to which the enclosure
would attach could not withstand the loads that the OpenAire enclosure
would impose. To solve this problem, OpenAire designed custom tie rods to
contain the thrust. The roof is glazed with clear 1" (25mm) five
walled polycarbonate and has 20 operable panels. The vertical areas are
glazed with 1" (25mm) insulating glass mostly in the form of sliding
glass doors.
