Pizza Express is located in St. Brelade, Jersey on the coast in the U.K. The restaurant was faced with a serious space shortage. The site is sandwiched between the beach on one side and the street on the other. Exterior seating provided only occasional relief from the space crunch.

To enclose additional space providing shelter from the fickle elements while still providing a bright, outdoor environment. The owners and architects wanted a skylight with a retractable glass roof, which would flood the interior of the restaurant with light on winter days, and open up to the fresh air all summer. Restaurant patrons are now attracted to the resulting open concept and have the best of both worlds.

OpenAire provided Pizza Express with a four bay skylight measuring 30'x35'. The skylight is glazed with glass and has eight operable panels. Two small upper gable ends were included. The eight operable panels allow for a full 50% of the roof to be opened.

"OpenAire gave excellent support throughout the design and construction process... The rooflight was delivered on time and installed on schedule. The result is a stunning restaurant which is commercially successful and provides diners with a truly memorable experience."
